Road to Provincials: Day 10/231
I fell off for a few days there as the week got going and missed a few entries but I’m back on track. As soon as those zombie days hit, I completely lost all energy to throw down a blog or even eat properly for that matter. Fail. This week’s goal is to improve on those two areas a bit more – sleep and eat. Sounds easy right? I guess I complicate things too much then because I know this will be a challenge.
To recap how the rest of my week went after I fell off the blog train, I would have to say – not so hot. Don’t get me wrong, I had a great week but in terms of meeting my personal goals along the way, I didn’t do as well as planned. I guess the good thing is I left plenty of room for improvement this week right?
Thursday ended up being a true rest day for me which was a success. I NEVER take days off, even at the expense of moving slowly through a shitty workout just to satisfy my need to be in there moving some weight. With that said, I forced myself to take a day off and it was amazing. The key to that for me is to still keep myself busy. If I try to hang out at the gym and get work done, I’ll just end up hitting a few sets of something so instead, I booked myself a massage (if you’re in the London area and you need a massage therapist, check out Chris Dunn at Sutherland Chiropractic – dude works wonders) and even scheduled a short nap at home with the pooch.
I woke up bagged on Friday still because I ended up staying up too late on Thursday night – again, but I turned it around and had a pretty productive day. Took a trip down to check out Hybrid Fitness in Hyde Park and put in a workout with a couple familiar faces there and that was a blast. If you haven’t been yet, get your butt down there and check this gym out. It’s huge, full of racks, Olympic lifting platforms, ropes, turf space and more. I ended up getting in some much needed handstand walks and worked on a couple new moves upside down as well so that was a blast.
The weekend was pretty much an ‘off weekend’ in terms of goals and routine which I’m not too happy about. I had some fun with friends and put in a couple light workouts but weekends like this are what cause me to start my next week off on the wrong foot so I need to get better at keeping them full of routine as well. For some reason I slip up on water consumption, supplements and eating during the weekends so I’m hoping to stay strong and on point this upcoming weekend and start turning that trend around.
Other than that, I put together a brief video blog last night that I plan to get up and posted for tonight if I can find the time. Nothing too crazy but just a chance for me to get in front of the camera and chat about the ups and downs I had throughout the week as well as what I plan to work on for the upcoming week. Whenever I can I’ll throw in a few clips from my training sessions that week so you can see just what goes down in weight room.
Speaking of the weight room, it’s about time I get my butt in there now and start moving. I’ve been sitting here sipping coffee and pre-workout (not together!) for the past hour and a half so I think I should probably start hitting these LEGS. Oh, that reminds me, I spoke earlier of wanting legs worthy of driving around with the license plate ‘LEG DAY’ and after this weekend, I have even more incentive to up the size of these wheels. I’m looking into a new car shortly and ended up test driving a Ford Explorer on Saturday and I thin I’m in love. Smooth ass ride and waaay bigger than my little Honda Civic I’ve been driving for the past 5 years. Not only will I have the LEG DAY plate but now I’m going to be stepping out of a bigger vehicle which means I better be rocking some serious tree trunks otherwise I’m going to look way out of place haha.
Before I forget, here’s my weekly progress pic from the weekend. Not surprisingly I look pretty much the same as last week but maybe a bit hairier. Maybe I’ll just shave my stomach hair to look more like abs?
Off to hit this lift, I’ll see you guys tomorrow.
